FW2: 8 Week Intermediate Flameworking

Prerequisites: FW1: Introduction to Flameworking or prior flameworking experience.  

In this 8-week intensive, students will learn new skills and techniques that will expand on our Introduction to Flameworking course. Students will cultivate a stronger vision for continued artistic pursuits by combining hollow techniques with solid techniques, while also reviewing the technical proficiency necessary to work with borosilicate glass.

Anticipated Lesson Course Schedule (subject to change):
Session 1 – course overview, shop safety, review of basic solid straight seals, pulling points, forming blanks
Session 2 – cutting hollow tubing, gathering, even turning and blowing spheres
Session 3 – blowing spheres and shaping, straight seals, tube bending 
Session 4 – side seals, T-seals, donuts
Session 5 – blowing shapes and side seals continued, exterior and interior blow outs
Session 6 – ring seals, blind seals, Jesus seals
Session 7 – working with hollow color techniques, coil potting, wrap and rake
Session 8 – review of any techniques taught, student work time

Each class is 3 hours long and meets once a week for 8 consecutive weeks.

Free Open Studio Days are included in your registration. Throughout the duration of the course and with teacher approval, students can book a three hour time slot in the studio once a week from 10am – 6pm, Monday through Friday, to work on class projects or additional pieces.
